For centuries it was believed that the eagle could look directly in the sun and that it was reborn by diving into a fountain. Christians adopted this symbolism, comparing the eagle looking into the sun to Christ looking at His Father and the fountain as the renewal of the soul through baptism. Today, an eagle may often be spied on the baptismal fonts in older churches.

About Old World Christmas:
As a couple who shared a special love for Christmas, owners, Tim and Beth Merck reintroduced the figurative designs and the art of mouth-blown fine glass ornaments to the United States in 1979. Each figurative glass ornament produced by Old World Christmas is hand crafted in age-old tradition using the same techniques that originated in the 1800's. Molten glass is mouth-blown into finely carved molds made exclusively for Old World Christmas, before a hot solution of liquid silver is poured inside. The ornaments are then hand-painted and glittered in a series of labor-intensive steps to achieve the beautiful creations. The vast selection of finely crafted and affordable ornaments offers many choices to fit your personality or style.
